“Life is too short to read bad books.” I’d always heard that, but I still read books through until the end no matter how bad they were because I had this sense of obligation.
That is, until this week when I tried (really tried) to read a book that is utterly boring and unrealistic. I had to stop reading.
Do you read everything all the way through or do you feel life really is too short to read bad books?
I heard once that Stephen King said that no matter what you are involved in, give it 25%. If after 25% it doesn’t “have” you, odds are it never will. I do use this when it comes to books and movies. My TBR pile and my wishlist is neverending, and if I pick up a book and it doesn’t have me after 25% I put it down. Life really is too short.

Once I pick up a book, I almost always finish it. Except last week I bought a book, read the first chapter, and shelved it. It was terrible.

I do about the same with how long I'll give a book. Sometimes the first page will turn me completely off and sometimes I'll make it nearly to the end only to lose my connection with the book. My full review is here.
