The Interview
Could you please tell us a little about your book?
Evolution of a Sad Woman is a mystery, suspense, thriller and romance novel.
Five men – strangers – are drawn together by their love for the same beautiful woman, Kizzy. When Kizzy is brutally murdered, they are united by a common goal – to solve her murder. Personalities collide, tensions build and relationships will develop when police detective Evan Picard, attorney William Newton, former male model turned cabdriver Jimmy Smithson, former pro-football player turned used car salesman Tom Hastings and Catholic priest Father C.D. Casmiersky come together. Each man has a romantic history with Kizzy. They are forced to share their histories with Kizzy with each other, which is a very difficult thing for each man to do. In these histories, they will find clues to solve the mystery. They are taken down dark, dangerous roads into a new world of violence, pain and crime. The ending to this mystery will surprisingly change their lives forever.
What is the most important thing in your life right now?
My family is the most important thing in my life. My protection of their lives and privacy is why I write under a pseudonym.
My career as an author is the second most important thing in my life. My writing career makes me happy. Happiness is a goal we all search for our entire lives. In writing, I have found mine.
What are you currently working on?
I am currently editing my second novel, The Bunkhouse, a historical, mystery, suspense, thriller and romance novel with a science-fiction twist. It is due out in 2010.
I am currently writing the first sequel to Evolution of a Sad Woman entitled Alana – Evolution of a Woman, a mystery, suspense, thriller and romance novel.
I am currently researching my fourth novel entitled Time in Vieux Carre, a historical, mystery, suspense, thriller and romance novel.
What are some of your long term goals?
I hope I can write until I am very old. I hope people everywhere enjoy my novels, are challenged by my novels and are inspired by my novels. I hope my name, Gale Laure, is one of integrity, knowledge, success and professionalism in the business.
What do you feel sets this book apart from others in the same genre?
My novel, Evolution of a Sad Woman, is a multiple genre novel. When I visit different bookstores, I find it in a different section in every store. One story may have it under mystery. Others have it under romance, thriller, suspense, action adventure, crime, mystery, literature novels and several others. It is as if each person finds a different message in my novel.
Even male and female readers find a different message. The male readers enjoy the mystery, adventure, crime and action. The female readers love the mystery and the romance.
From the reader who wants just to be entertained to the reader who wants an inspiring message, each finds what they want or need from my novel. And might I add – no one has ever figured out the surprise ending! I am quite proud of that fact.
What is the most important lesson you have learned from life so far?
The most important lesson I have learned is that I can survive anything – and believe me, I have.
My home and almost everything in it was destroyed by hurricane Ike.
My husband has been through cancer twice.
My book was destroyed the first time I wrote it when my husband tried to upgrade my computer for me, and the backup was corrupt.
My second book, The Bunkhouse, was destroyed when my computer was destroyed by the hurricane. However this time, I had a flash drive backup of it.
My sickly elderly parents have required me to put my life on hold at times to care for them.
I was very sick with pneumonia from South America that I caught while traveling on an international flight.
But . . . here I am. I made it. I am an author of an international selling novel. Nothing stopped me. I can survive anything. Perseverance is everything.

I am looking for an Agatha Christie type of mystery book. One that keeps you wanting to turn the page.
I have read your mystery book chapter one. It was written in such a way that it could be a short murder mystery story. I am attempting to relate the mysteries in the first chapter to the book cover. Explain the book-cover story behind the book so to speak.
Mystery Book Lady,
Please let me say first that I am no Agatha Christie. She is a mentor of mine. I am in awe of her work.
I can understand why you can not relate the cover to the first chapter of my novel. Many have been mystified by my cover. Others have totally disliked it.
I designed my own book cover. I wanted everything about "Evolution of a Sad Woman" to be my design. The eye on the cover is a real human eye. She is crying tears. The eyes is Kizzy's eye. But are the tears real? Were her tears real? Throughout my novel you will see Kizzy turn into a sad woman. She did not start out that way. The book explains what happens to the reader. Notice on the cover the tears are mixed with the blood. Is the blood real? Does it look real? All this mystery about the cover will be explained in sequels to "Evolution of a Sad Woman".
Hope you enjoy my book. Thanks for blogging in.
