About Kerri Nelson
Kerri Nelson has always been passionate about reading books but when she wrote her first poem in the second grade, she discovered her love of writing. At the age of sixteen, she became a columnist for her local newspaper as the high school correspondent for the weekly “Panther Tales” column. She won the Outstanding Young Journalist of the Year Award for her efforts.
After an education and career in the legal field, Kerri began to pen romantic suspense novels with a legal or law enforcement theme. She is a true southern belle and comes complete with her dashing southern gentleman husband and three adorable children. When she’s not reading or writing, you’ll find her baking homemade goodies for her family, feeding her addiction to blogging online or designing custom made book video advertisements (novel trailers).
Kerri is an active member of Romance Writers of America as well as numerous Chapters including Hearts Through History Romance Writers, Futuristic Fantasy & Paranormal, and Celtic Hearts Romance Writers.
Kerri is a multi-published author of romance in every genre from romantic suspense and paranormal to young adult and inspirational novels. In 2009, Kerri wrote and sold twelve books to multiple publishers using her Book Factory method. Her next paranormal romantic suspense Courting Demons will be released from Dorchester Publishing in 2011.

Could you please tell us a little about your book?
Cross Check My Heart is a romantic suspense novel with a hockey theme. It takes place as the U.S. Hockey Team trains and prepares for the Winter Olympics. When sports therapist Jana Dean comes to town to give the players their final fitness evaluations, she meets professional hockey player Danny Cipriani. Not only do the duo hit it off at work, but they find themselves thrown into a world of danger and violence as Jana’s secret past catches up with them.
What cause are you most passionate about and why?
My family. Hands down.
My family is the most important thing in my life. They are what inspires me to achieve my dreams, what motivates me to keep my chin up when times get tough, and what drives me towards success at every turn. They are my life.
In the last year have you learned or improved on any skills?
Yes, I still take classes and workshops just like I encourage all authors to do. We can always improve on our skills—even after we become published. Currently, I’m working on my dialogue skills. That’s a tough area for me and I’m signed up for a class that focuses on this in the coming month.
What are you currently working on?
I frequently have multiple projects going at any one time. Right now, I have a paranormal suspense in progress, a historical time travel in progress, and I’m editing my second young adult novel due out in September!
Do you have any advice for writers or readers?
Advice for readers…read what you enjoy and don’t be afraid to give e-books a try if you haven’t already. They are surprisingly great and a really inexpensive way to discover new authors that you might not otherwise get to read.
Advice for writers…seek out a group of like minded authors and build a support system of friends that will help you achieve your goals more quickly. Continue to take classes and learn more about your craft as you go along. And don’t forget to write! Don’t let the business of seeking publication or editing that one work over and over again keep you from writing something new!
What are some of your long term goals?
I’ve just sold my 12th book and one of my novels has been sold to a big NY publisher. My long term goal would be to see one of my novels made into a film. Hey, dream big, right? Other than that, I’d happily settle for making the NY Times Bestseller list and signing more contracts for many more novels.
What is your favorite past-time?
I love to bake sweet treats for family and friends. My two specialties are peach cobbler and bread pudding. I even decorate cakes for fun! Of course, I just had my third baby earlier this year and I’m on a self imposed “no dessert” diet for one year. So, this makes resisting my own sweet treats very challenging.

Congratulations Kerri on selling a book to a large NY publisher! I see great things in your future.
Thanks for the advice. I think sourrounding myself with like minded people has been a huge benefit to me. This is a hard job to do alone, I think.
