The Interview
Could you please tell us a little about your book?
Recovery is the sequel to my first book, To My Senses. It takes place two years after the main character, Nicci, has suffered the loss of her love, David Alexander. Nicci learns David was killed because of her. Someone from her past in New Orleans murdered David out of jealousy over Nicci. She teams up with a corporate spy, and former friend of David’s, to hunt down the killer in ravages of post-Katrina New Orleans.
Did something specific happen to prompt you to write this book?
After Hurricane Katrina, I wanted to share my experiences with the after math of the storm with readers. Placing Recovery in post-Katrina New Orleans was important so that people could experience a little of what it was like for those of us from the city. I felt it was an important part of the story to show Nicci’s recovery from her grief beside the resurrecting city of New Orleans.
Who or what is the inspiration behind this book?
The success of the first book and the love so many readers had for the characters, prompted me to continue the story. There was no sequel to my first book, but I really enjoyed writing the characters so much, I wanted the fun to continue. So I sat down and wrote Recovery.
What cause are you most passionate about and why?
I am a permitted and certified wildlife rehabber with the La. Wildlife and fisheries, so I can say that animals are my passion. Rescuing orphaned and injured wildlife gives me the greatest joy. I have a house filled with animals and get a lot in from concerned individuals who find orphaned and injured wildlife. When I am not writing, I am up to my elbows in all things furry. As I write this, I have an injured baby squirrel running around on me wanting to play. Needless to say, I am a big time multitasker.
What are you currently working on?
The next novel in the Nicci Beauvoir Series, Sacrifice. It picks up where the second book, Recovery, leaves off and will be out at the end of the year.
Do you have any advice for writers or readers?
Always continue writing and never give up. If you believe in yourself as a writer then others will follow. Any audience no matter how small is important .
What do you feel sets this book apart from others in the same genre?
I think this novel is definitely more character driven than many in the romantic suspense genre. Recovery is about post-Katrina New Orleans and about Nicci Beauvoir’s recovery from grief. Having followed the first book in the series, To My Senses, gives this book an intriguing love story as its basis. Blend in the quirky characters and the eclectic city in which it is based, and I think you have a highly original novel.
