I’m not sure if anyone that reads this site has ever been to Bucca di Beppo? I wish that I could find a way to describe it but quirky would be a start. With Christmas lights throughout, a shrine to Frank Sinatra, a Pope’s table (including a bust in a glass case), these are just a small portion of the unique things you will find in this Italian restaurant. My hubby and I had been to the one in Milwaukee, but when one opened right down the road from us we decided it was time to bring the girls.
I used to be the type of person that would shy away from spicy things. But, as the years have passed I am more and more drawn to them. I do still get indigestion sometimes, but seriously, it can be well worth it. As was the case with the Penne ala Vodka I ordered on Thursday. If you have never been to Bucca, let me tell you that their portions are enormous – a small portions serves 2-3 people. The whole goal was to have it be “family style” so when people went out to eat they shared their meal with the other people at the table. The description of the pasta was “Sauteed garlic, diced tomatoes, crushed red peppers, and penne pasta tossed in a creamy vodka red sauce” – and that red pepper sure did pack a punch…wow! But it was absolutely delicious and totally addicting – even my girls had some, and had it for lunch the next day, with extra large glasses of milk to help put out the fire in their mouth.
So, if you ever get the chance and are looking for large portions, good food, and a truly unique dining experience, I would recommend Bucca di Beppo!
