This week’s musing asks…

Why do you think that the Young Adult genre is so popular with even the adult readers? Do you read YA books, yourself?

I used to ask myself the same thing. Being a Virtual Book Tour Coordinator with Pump Up Your Books/Literal Exposure I have had the opportunity (I have been doing this for years) to monitor the internet and follow lots of different blogs. The one that I have found to be the most dead set on what they will read are the YA bloggers. I never used to read too many YA books (I did not care for Twilight…sorry my friends) but I have changed my tune. The Hunger Games trilogy is one of my favorites and I am currently reading The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa..and loving it as well. I will read just about anything, but after perusing MANY different blogs/sites it seems as if there is a staunch rebellion by the YA book bloggers, they stand behind their genre and many of them choose not to read anything else, or blog about it is they do.

Why is it so popular with adult readers? I can only speak for myself but I do find them to be “easy” reads. It is not that the storylines aren’t good, or that the characters aren’t developed. They just seem easier to pick up than a book by someone like Stephen King. A prime example of a YA book that blew me away was Blue by Lou Aronica (you can read my review here). This book is still one of my favorite all-time reads and has such a fabulous story and characters that I fell in love with. I will continue to read whatever books sound good to me, and YA is certainly included in the mix!

This challenge has been great as it is really making me think. Hope you are enjoying reading my choices and would love to know your thoughts.

DAY 2 – A Book You’ve Read More Than 3 Times

I suffer from a syndrome I like to call, “Too many books, too little time.” Anyone else, lol? I have a feeling that most of the people that follow my site have this same disorder. I wish I could find the cure but think the only thing I can do is not sleep and read, read, read. With that said, this book I have actually read 5 times. And at over 1100 pages that is really saying something. Even though I have hundreds…make that thousands…of books that I would love to read I won’t say that I won’t read this one again. The story is as close to perfect as you get in my opinion.

Hopefully I can come up with some insightful answer, but it is truly doubtful, lol!

DAY 1 – The Best Book You Read Last Year

This one is truly a no-brainer. I know that I am behind in my reading when I first read The Hunger Games this last year. I don’t really even know what I can say about this book that hasn’t already been said, all I can say is that of all the books I have read in my life this one tops the list. Original and exciting, part of me can’t wait for the movie. The other part is wondering how it can possibly live up to the book.

If you haven’t read it, please consider doing so…and fast. Don’t see the movie first!

Here are the additional days for this meme, if you decide to play please link up so I can see what you are doing.

I am a huge fan of the Book Blogger Hop – haven’t been there? It’s ok, it’s never too late to start. Meet other book lovers just like you and check out some really awesome sites!

Something new that was added recently is a question to help you get to know your fellow book bloggers.

This week’s question: Tell us about some of your favorite authors and why they are your favorites.

This question is always tough for me. Why? My tastes vary and to be able to pick a true favorite is always hard. My standard answer is Stephen King and I guess he would really be my favorite. Even though many classify him as a horror writer, his writing spans so many different genres (at times, obviously his heart belongs in horror). But, look at “The Green Mile”. Not horror at all. And short stories such as “Stand by Me” and “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption”. Even “Pet Sematary” isn’t really horror (at least not to me). Obviously it’s creepy that he is burying his loved ones hoping they come back but my heart breaks for him as I am reading it. But, throw in “It” and ” ‘Salem’s Lot” and now we are talking horror. So, that is my answer, take it for what it’s worth.

Head over to Crazy For Books to join, here is the info:

In the spirit of the Twitter Friday Follow, the Book Blogger Hop is a place just for book bloggers and readers to connect and find new book-related blogs that we may be missing out on!

This weekly BOOK PARTY is an awesome opportunity for book bloggers to connect with other book lovers, make new friends, support each other, and generally just share our love of books! It will also give blog readers a chance to find other book blogs that they may not know existed! So, grab the logo, post about the Hop on your blog, and start HOPPING through the list of blogs that are posted on the site!!

The Hop lasts Friday-Monday every week, so if you don’t have time to Hop today, come back later and join the fun! This is a weekly event! And stop back throughout the weekend to see all the new blogs that are added! We get nearly 200 links every week!!

Your blog should have content related to books, including, but not limited to book reviews.

Happy Friday and Happy Reading!

I love, love, love finding new blogs – it’s actually one of my favorite things to do. And, I also love getting new followers. So when I saw this I knew I had to participate. Here are the details:

Welcome to Fun Follow Friday hosted by Simply Stacie and My Wee View. The goal of this hop is to get new Google Friend Connect Followers for your blog and be introduced to new blogs to follow! We wanted to keep it fun and easy so all you have to do is add your blog link and start blog hopping and following away! You aren’t required to write a post for your blog for Fun Follow Fridayunless you want to (but we really appreciate it if you do – to help get the word out).

When you visit a blog that you like and want to follow, leave them a comment with your link telling them you are following from the Fun Follow Friday. Of course, we would love for you to follow both hostesses blogs, Simply Stacie and My Wee View, but it isn’t mandatory. If you do follow us, just leave us a comment and we will follow you back.

The main goal is to have fun and follow the blogs that interest you!

To make things even more fun, each week one blog from the previous week, will be chosen at random to be put in the #3 spot. The #3 spot will be chosen by Random.org! This week’s Fun Follow Friday blogger of the week is Nomie.Eco.Ware. She takes the #3 spot. We will be selecting next week’s blogger of the week from this weeks entries.

***new*** Fun Follow Friday is doing something new and different this week and offering you another way to promote your blog. How does a week premium ad spot on BOTH Simply Stacieand My Wee View sound?

To enter your blog, all you have to do is write a post on Friday telling your readers about Fun Follow Friday! Leave the link to your post on the linky on Friday and you are entered to win. We will be drawing 1 winner each week from the previous week’s entries and they will have their button proudly displayed on both blogs for a week.

I wanted to mention that you can still participate in Fun Follow Friday without making a blog post about it. However, to participate in this special giveaway, you need to write a post about it.

Happy hopping along!

I didn’t have a huge week in receiving books this week, but the two I did sound great!

This is an ARC that I received for an upcoming book tour. Here’s some info:

Have you ever been a less than perfect friend? To whom does your first loyalty belong—your best friend or your husband? With her trademark wit and empathy, Sally Koslow explores the entangled lives of women in this candid, fast-paced novel.

Quincy, Talia, Chloe, and Jules met in the early nineties after answering a roommate ad for a Manhattan apartment. Despite having little in common, the women became fast friends. A decade later, their lives have diverged, though their ties remain strong.

Quincy, a Midwestern introvert, is trying to overcome a set of tragedies by hunting for the perfect home; Talia, a high-energy Brooklyn wife and mom with an outspoken conscience, is growing resentful of her friends’ greater financial stability and her husband’s lack of ambition; timid Chloe, also a mother, is trying to deflect pressure from her husband, a hedge fund manager, to play the role of trophy wife; while Jules, a fiercely independent actress/entrepreneur with a wicked set of life rules, is confronting her forties alone.

When Jules gives her new boyfriend the inside scoop on the real estate gem Quincy is lusting after, and Talia chases a lucrative job earmarked for Chloe, the women are forced to wrestle with the challenges of love and motherhood. Will their friendships and marriages survive? And at what price? Punchy yet tender, a high-five to sisterhood, this book will hit an emotional bull’s-eye for anyone who has had—or been—less than a perfect friend.

This is another ARC that I received as part of a virtual book tour. Here is some info:

He knows everything about you—including the first place you’ll hide.

On a warm summer night in one of Boston’s working-class neighborhoods, an unthinkable crime has been committed: Four members of a family have been brutally murdered. The father—and possible suspect—now lies clinging to life in the ICU. Murder-suicide? Or something worse? Veteran police detective D. D. Warren is certain of only one thing: There’s more to this case than meets the eye.

Danielle Burton is a survivor, a dedicated nurse whose passion is to help children at a locked-down pediatric psych ward. But she remains haunted by a family tragedy that shattered her life nearly twenty-five years ago. The dark anniversary is approaching, and when D. D. Warren and her partner show up at the facility, Danielle immediately realizes: It has started again.

A devoted mother, Victoria Oliver has a hard time remembering what normalcy is like. But she will do anything to ensure that her troubled son has some semblance of a childhood. She will love him no matter what. Nurture him. Keep him safe. Protect him. Even when the threat comes from within her own house.

In New York Times bestselling author Lisa Gardner’s most compelling work of suspense to date, the lives of these three women unfold and connect in unexpected ways, as sins from the past emerge—and stunning secrets reveal just how tightly blood ties can bind. Sometimes the most devastating crimes are the ones closest to home.

Both sound great and I can’t wait to read them. What did you get in your mailbox?
